CEC demands compensation from NDMA

Leh :
The Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh expresses his outmost disappointment on the failure of the NDMA and Central government in tackling the Phuktal river blockade situation.

The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh had written to the Prime Minister way back in January 2015 appraising the Prime Minister of the impending danger posed by the blockage to the lives and properties along the downward course of the river Zanskar and Indus and have time and again approached and requested the highest authorities to effectively deal with the situation.

The assurance given by NDMA and other concern agencies were deception despite having taken the task on its own hand and incurred a huge expense to Government exchequer, they have cheated the people living in this region as massive amount of agriculture land, livestock, infrastructure and bridges have been washed away. Only the NDMA under the Central Government is accountable for the massive destruction occurred in the aftermath of the breach of Phuktal artificial lake. Now, the onus is on the Central Government to immediately assess the extent of loss and compensate for the losses at the earliest. Directions have been issued to the CEO/DC to immediately have the assessment done to claim compensation from NDMA/Central Government.

However, the chairman appreciated the efforts put by the District Administration, District police and NHPC in proactively gearing up to face the situation by rehabilitating the people and livestock to safe areas along the entire banks up to Beema village.
