Capacity building on Rooftop solar held for Kargil power officials

The National Power Training Institute (NPTI), Nangal, Punjab, under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, conducted a two-day capacity-building programme on grid-connected rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) on June 27 in Kargil.
Held at the Conference Hall, the training was specifically designed for officials of the Power Development Department (PDD), Kargil, to enhance their technical understanding and implementation capacity regarding rooftop solar initiatives.
The programme was inaugurated by Rakesh Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, who highlighted the multiple benefits of rooftop solar systems in his address. He discussed the region’s current power challenges and emphasized the potential of renewable energy to improve energy access and sustainability in Kargil.
Dr. M. Ravichandra Babu, Director, NPTI, welcomed participants and underlined the significance of the PMSGMBY scheme, especially the special subsidy provisions designed for the Union Territory of Ladakh. He stressed the need for skilled implementation to make the scheme a success in remote and high-altitude regions like Kargil.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director, NPTI, while the event was compered by Sh. Balwinder Kumar, training expert, NPTI.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana aims to provide free electricity to households by facilitating subsidized rooftop solar panel installations. The scheme supports reduction in electricity bills, promotes clean energy, reduces dependency on power subsidies, and contributes to lowering carbon emissions.
