Braille Kit ‘Annie’ introduced in Ladakh schools to boost inclusive learning
A distribution ceremony for the Braille learning device ‘Annie’ was held on November 13 at PM Shri Government High School, Chuchot Yokma, for students of the Centre for Wellness and Special Abilities (CWSA) from across Leh.
Organized by the School Education Department, the event aimed to strengthen inclusive education in Ladakh’s unique and challenging terrain.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, First Lady of Ladakh, Bindu Gupta, emphasized the importance of inclusive education and empowering children with special needs. She highlighted that every child deserves equal access to quality learning, and true societal progress lies in building an education system rooted in empathy, confidence, and self-reliance—ensuring no child is left behind.
She commended the dedication of CWSA teachers and staff for their tireless efforts in nurturing specially-abled children.
Calling the event more than just a distribution ceremony, the First Lady said it embodied the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas,” inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of collective progress. She also appreciated the commitment of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, in ensuring quality education reaches every child, even in remote areas, noting that Ladakh is emerging as a model for educational innovation and social inclusion under his leadership.
Highlighting the significance of the ‘Annie’ Braille kits, she described them as tools of empowerment that will help children learn with greater confidence and independence. She also applauded the students for their inspiring performances, which showcased their enthusiasm and talent.
Encouraging students to strive for excellence, she urged them to make the best use of available opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the progress of society and the nation. She called for collective efforts to build a society where every child moves forward with dignity and equal opportunity.
Secretary, School Education Department, Bhanu Prabha, shared that 622 differently-abled studentshave been identified across Ladakh and announced upcoming hostel facilities, special care classes, and dedicated caretakers for them.
Director of School Education, Tashi Dolma, informed that 44 specially-abled students are currently enrolled under the CWSA.
