BJP, Zanskar, calls on Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister, to discuss issues

To address several issues of Ladakh, a delegation from Zanskar led by Thupstan Chhewang Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Stanzin Lhakpa, BJP Leader, Zanskar call on Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister in her office chamber of Indian Parliament on February 9.

The delegates requested the Defence Minister to release the announced amount of ₹ 1700 Cr with cabinet approval as the Tunnel at Shingula on Nimoo-Padum-Darcha road is already stand sanctioned for which the amount is committed to be released at the earliest. 

She assured to initiate her personal intervention and shown her interest in the NPD Project. She also assured to connect Padum to Darcha in the coming summer of 2018 and her commitment to visit Zanskar to inaugurate the road in July end.

The delegates requested T.T. Negi, Chief Engineer, and National Highway at Transport Bhawan in New Delhi to speed up the construction work on (Sankoo-Padum) NH 301. 

They further requested for additional funds for the maintenance and repair of the existing road as well as for the creation of a special NH Division to supervise on NH 301.
 
The chief engineer assured to provide additional funds for repair and maintain of the existing road between Kargil and Zanskar for the comfort of the travelers till the on-going works of National Highway are completed.
 
He further assured to depute one chief engineer from National Highway at Kargil to supervise the on-going works of NH 301.

The delegates further asked to sanction a steel bridge along with link road to Pishu village and link road around Padum and Karsha to Hongchot - Youltsum.
 
The delegation comprised of Stanzin Norbu, Former Councillor Geshay Gelak Tsetan, Namgyal Phuntsok, President BJYM Zanskar and Dorjay Gonbo
