LEH :
To aware students about the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) organised an awareness workshop at EJM College, Leh on May 26.

Dr. Dileep Malkhede, Advisor AICTE and Rakesh Ganjoo, Deputy Director AICTE visited Ladakh for awareness workshop about this scheme.
Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC,  chief guest thanked the team for coming all the way from Delhi to create awareness about this scheme to the deserving students of this far-flung area.

He said that this scheme is meant for the deserving students who want to pursue higher education in Ladakh. " Due to lack of knowledge about this scheme, we could not make use of it, it is difficult to get admission in colleges and to meet the expenditure studying outside but under this scheme they are offering a golden chance to cover all education expenditure so we should use this scheme in shaping the future of students by giving quality and skillful education,”he added.

He assured to create awareness about the importance of PMSSS in all Hr. Secondary schools of Leh district in the days to come.
Prof. Sonam Yangzes, Principal, EJM College said, “Due to various reasons, the professional institution of higher learning is not open in Ladakh yet, thus compelling the students to go outside for higher professional courses. However, only a few can afford to send their children. Most of the deserving students have to submit their fate with other degree courses out of compulsion. This has lead to frustration and unemployment in Ladakh, and has also resulted in much shortage of professional such as Doctor, Engineer etc.”

Speaking about the scheme in details through power point presentation, Dr. Dileep Malkhede, Advisor AICTE said, “Under this scheme, Govt. provides   scholarship for the aspiring students for degree education, professional education and general education. The scholarship includes all expenditure such as hostel fees, food charges, stationary, library etc. during the graduation time.”

He informed that there are agents who misguide the students in the name of AICTE in the market and they admitted them in the preferred universities of their choices. So he requested students to find the information only through AICTE website or from the centre which is the only way of getting authentic information.

Govt. of India through AICTE under Ministry of Human Resource Development has come up with the scheme to assist the students to avail quality higher education with professional degrees and skills through PMSSS for J&K.
