Awareness programme on nutrition and early child marriage held in Shargole
ICDS Project Shargole organised a tehsil-level awareness programme on Poshan Pakhwada and early child marriage at Government Higher Secondary School (HSS), Shargole, on April 20. The event was held in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Kargil and Government HSS Shargole, aiming to raise awareness among children, adolescents, and the general public.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Dr. Niyaz, Chairperson of DCPU Kargil, and Mohd Naqi, Principal of HSS Shargole, both serving as resource persons. It was also attended by staff members of the school, ICDS Supervisors Punchok Dolma and Kacho Mustafa, the Block Coordinator from ICDS, Anganwadi workers of ICDS Project Shargole, and students.
Supervisor Kacho Mustafa explained Poshan Pakhwada, its objectives, and the theme of the campaign. Principal Mohd Naqi delivered an insightful address on nutrition, highlighting the importance of quality education, good parenting, and proper nurturing for the holistic development of children.
Dr. Niyaz from DCPU Kargil elaborated on various child welfare schemes and spoke extensively on the issue of early child marriage. Special emphasis was laid on sensitising participants about the POCSO Act and legal safeguards for children.
An exhibition of local and traditional ethnic foods was also organised to promote awareness about the nutritional value of indigenous diets and the importance of incorporating them into daily life in accordance with local climate and culture.
The programme concluded with refreshments for all participants. The initiative successfully raised awareness on nutrition, child protection, and the harmful effects of early marriage, while encouraging community participation in creating a healthier and safer environment for children.
