Awareness campaign on Prevention of Drug Abuse held

District Administration Leh through its Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee, Leh organised an awareness campaign on Prevention of Drug Abuse at Paras Hall, Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh on September 17.

Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk was present as the Chief Guest of the occasion.

Sharing concern over the prevailing drug abuse in the society, Chief Guest Tsering Angchuk stressed that parents and teachers play an important role in curbing this social nuisance.  He added that rather than finding faults in others, all the stakeholders of the society should work together against it.

EC Stanzin Chosphel and SSP, Leh also addressed the gathering on the occasion.

It was informed that Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh is the first school in Leh district to have established a YATO Club, which is formed and managed by the children and the objective is to report and prevent drug and substance use among children in school/educational institutions.

On the occasion, a film on drug abuse titled ‘Thugsam Sal’ produced by Leh Nutrition Project and directed by Tsetan Angchuk was premiered.

Similarly, the YATO Club of Boys Hr Sec School performed a skit highlighting the prevalent social malice of drug abuse and its consequences.

Executive Councillor, Culture, Stanzin Chosphel; Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, P D Nitya; Chief Education Officer, Leh, SD Namgial; District Social Welfare, Leh, Nilza Angmo; Principal, DIET Leh, Tsetan Dorjey; Principal, Boys Hr Sec School, Leh; teaching faculty, students and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
