ARTO Kargil organises road safety awareness program for women, specially-abled persons

As a part of various programmes being held in connection with the 32nd National Road Safety Month, Motor Vehicles Department Ladakh and ARTO Kargil organised a road safety awareness program for women and specially-abled persons at Tourist Facilitation Center, Kargil on February 10.

ARTO Kargil, Khadim Hussain said that the purpose of this awareness programme was to discuss road safety awareness for women, specially-abled persons as well as senior citizens as they face several problems while commuting through public transport. 

He said that there is a need to bring awareness for providing reserved seats to women and specially-abled persons in public transport.

District Programme Officer, ICDS, Kargil, Nargis Banoo said that using public transport is a good option but favorable conditions should be made available for women so that they can travel without fear, and reservation of seats should also be ensured. She stressed on the Anganwadi Workers to spread the message of road safety throughout the district for the larger benefit of the masses.

District Social Welfare Officer Kargil, Aga Syed Jamal said that we need to get properly acquainted with the rules of road safety and it is due to our ignorance that issues arise regarding road safety, in which both the drivers and pedestrians are responsible, adding both should know their responsibilities.

A PowerPoint presentation was also given by the ARTO, Kargil on road safety awareness for women and specially-abled persons. 

Parveen Akhtar CDPO said that this is the first time in the history of Kargil that a workshop is organised on road safety for women. She said that women do face many problems owing to which their reservation in public transport should be ensured, adding that a lot of awareness needs to be done on this front.

CDPO Gulnar Banoo also stressed the need for mass level awareness to ensure proper reservation for women and specially-abled persons in public transport.
