Al Reza Foundation & ASG Hospital launch annual cataract surgery camp

Kargil :

CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon inaugurated a Cataract Surgery Eye Camp on June 18 at the Old District Hospital Kargil. The camp was organized by the Al Reza Healthcare and Research Foundation in collaboration with ASG Hospital Srinagar and the District Health Department Kargil.

In his address, Dr. Jaffer lauded the Al Reza Foundation for its commendable service in the healthcare sector. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the team of doctors from ASG Hospital, especially Dr. Manzoor Ul Mehdi, Director of ASG Hospital Srinagar, for consistently organizing eye surgery camps in Kargil over the years. He appreciated their dedication in restoring vision and improving lives for hundreds of patients.

He further acknowledged the significant role of Jamiat Ulama Isna Asharia in various social service domains and reiterated LAHDC’s commitment to strengthening ophthalmic healthcare at the district level. Dr. Jaffer shared that a substantial number of ophthalmologists, gynecologists, radiologists, and surgeons have been added to District Hospital Kargil to improve medical services.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, he informed that the procurement of a 3 Tesla MRI machine is underway, and LAHDC is actively engaging with the Ministry of Health, Government of India, to upgrade the hospital’s capacity from 100 to 200 beds.

Dr. Jaffer expressed hope that the Al Reza Foundation and ASG Hospital will continue organizing such medical camps to benefit the people of Kargil.

Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Suse appreciated the Al Reza Foundation for their outstanding contributions in healthcare, noting that their efforts have been recognized with a state-level award. He assured continued support from the district administration for all future initiatives of the foundation.
President of Jamiat Ulama Isna Asharia, Hujjat-ul-Islam Sheikh Naazir Ul Mehdi, thanked the team of doctors and volunteers for their dedication in making the camp successful.

He affirmed that Al Reza Foundation will continue to provide free healthcare services to the underprivileged in Kargil.
The eye camp, being held annually since 2017 under the supervision of Dr. Manzoor Ul Mehdi, performs 50–60 cataract surgeries and treats 250–300 patients free of cost each year.

The event was attended by ADC Kargil Imteaz Kacho, CMO Dr. Liaqat Ali Khan, Director ASG Dr. Manzoor Ul Mehdi, Sheikh Naazir Ul Mehdi, Dr. Abbas, along with the executive team and volunteers of Al Reza Foundation.
