ADC Kargil reviews cleanliness drive, calls for coordinated sanitation efforts
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS), convened a meeting on March 16to review and strengthen the ongoing cleanliness drive in the district.
During the meeting, the ADC emphasised the importance of maintaining sanitation and cleanliness and directed all concerned departments to prepare and implement a structured schedule for cleanliness drives across their respective jurisdictions, including panchayats, divisional headquarters, and urban areas.
He instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to hold meetings with religious leaders and community heads to raise awareness among the public—especially during the holy month of Ramadan—about cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
The ADC observed that while people generally maintain cleanliness within their homes, garbage is often disposed of in streets and public spaces, leading to pollution and sanitation issues. He stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure that public areas remain clean and hygienic.
He further directed departments to ensure the prompt removal of construction materials lying along highways, link roads, and other public roadsides to avoid inconvenience to commuters. He emphasised that such materials should be cleared without delay, even without waiting for formal notices.
Highlighting the need for sustained efforts, the ADC noted that while awareness campaigns are conducted periodically, their impact often fades over time. He called for continuous community participation and regular awareness initiatives to ensure lasting change.
The meeting was attended by officers from various departments, including the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kargil, Chief Engineer Vijayak, Tehsildar Kargil, District Panchayat Officer (DPO), Executive Engineers from Public Works Department (PWD) and Public Health Engineering (PHE), Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil, all SDMs and Tehsildars, Assistant Director National Informatics Centre (NIC), and Assistant Director Information Department. Several officers also participated through video conferencing.
