Kargil :

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohammad, inaugurated a two-day Seva Setu Abhiyan Camp on October 19 to raise awareness about the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana at the Syed Mehdi Memorial Auditorium Hall, Kargil. The camp was held on October 19 and 20.

The inauguration was attended by Wajihat Mir, Superintending Engineer; Feroz Wani, Executive Engineer; Syed Mohammad and Syed Mudashir, Assistant Engineers, EPD; and Abass, Manager, J&K Bank Main Branch, along with officials, solar vendors and members of the public.

During the camp, the dignitaries visited stalls set up by various vendors and interacted with their representatives. The vendors provided information on the benefits of rooftop solar systems, application procedures, technical requirements, and the installation and commissioning process.

Participants were informed about the financial assistance provided by the Central Government and the UT Administration under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Against an indicative cost of ₹1,90,800, a subsidy of around ₹1,35,800 may be available, subject to applicable norms. Vendors also explained that inverter and battery provisions may vary depending on the vendor and package selected.

The vendors clarified that rooftop solar systems are primarily designed to generate electricity and reduce power bills rather than provide backup power. Following installation, beneficiaries can become both consumers and producers of electricity. Systems with capacities of 3–5 kW can generate electricity for use in accordance with applicable billing and net-metering provisions.

The issue of difficulties in rooftop solar installations due to the non-installation of smart meters in some town areas was also raised. The matter was discussed with the concerned officials for necessary resolution.

Abass, Manager of J&K Bank Main Branch, interacted with participants and addressed their queries and grievances regarding banking services and financial assistance available under the scheme.
