70 farmers participate in agriculture training camp at Likir
A one-day training camp under the National Food Security Mission – Wheat (NFSM–Wheat) was organised by the Agriculture Department at Likir village on March 5. The programme focused on creating awareness among farmers and building their capacity regarding the importance of rajma, mustard and wheat cultivation, along with the adoption of modern agricultural technologies.
Around 70 farmers from Likir village actively participated in the training camp.
Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Mohd Ramzan, Agriculture Extension Officer Leh Tsering Dolkar, Junior Agriculture Extension Officers Stanzin Idong, Ishey Dolma and Deachen Angmo conducted the session.
The programme covered several important topics, including the package of practices for greenhouse cultivation in Ladakh, preparation and benefits of vermicompost, use of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, and the importance of natural and organic farming.
Farmers were also briefed on the significance of rajma, wheat and mustard cultivation under the NFSM–Wheat scheme, the benefits of mulching for moisture conservation and yield enhancement, and seed production technology for quality seed multiplication.
During the session, participants were informed about various government schemes and subsidies available through the Agriculture Department to support and strengthen farming activities in the region.
The interactive programme provided farmers an opportunity to clarify their queries and enhanced their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices suited to Ladakh’s agro-climatic conditions. The training concluded with an assurance of continued technical support from the Agriculture Department to improve productivity and promote self-reliance among farmers.
