Executive Councilor, RD&PRD, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi inaugurated a three-month training program on embroidery, fashion designing and tailoring on January 5.

The program was held under livelihood activities organised by project manager IWMP RD&PRD Kargil at Karchey Khar Sankoo. Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Ghulam Mohammad besides Sarpanch, Panch and local trainees were present during the inaugural session. 

EC congratulated ACD Kargil for organising the skill development program for the local trainees in various trades. He emphasized that skill development is crucial in today's job market, considering the emergence of new avenues for employment.

EC Tashi further mentioned that the Government of India is implementing various welfare schemes for artisans to boost their skills and make them self-sufficient in economic endeavors. He highlighted that by empowering local artisans and Self-Help Groups, it marks a significant stride towards achieving an Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

He also expressed that locally crafted products hold immense potential to establish their unique identity in the market. He noted that products from various SHGs in the district have been showcased in prominent national markets such as Delhi Haat. He highlighted that leveraging technology and the expertise of trained trainers in their respective fields will contribute significantly to enhancing quality of products in the future.

EC Tashi also acknowledged the abundant potential for tourism attraction in Sankoo and its adjoining areas, citing the presence of numerous historical and religious sites. He commended the locals for their efforts in preserving these heritage sites, anticipating that it would attract tourists from around the world. 

ACD Kargil emphasized that artisans and SHGs should take benefit of the three-month-long training program. While highlighting the objectives of the training initiative, he urged artisans to actively enhance their skills throughout the training period.

He said after the completion of program, free machines will be provided to SHGs who would be able to open their own shops in the market of Sankoo or Kargil.
