173 BPL families benefits under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme

Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana a total of 173 BPL families of Leh district received the LPG gas connection as informed in a press conference held by Indian Oil Corporation on May 8 at Petrol Pump, Leh.

Mumjaz Hussain,District Nodal Officer, Leh said, “The distribution of the LPG gas connection was launched on October 19, 2016, by Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali, Minister of Food supply and metrological department in Leh.”

He informed that as per the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data the total number of beneficiaries under this scheme in Leh district is 3915 families. “We received 442 application out of which 386 have been cleared and have distributed the connection to the 173 families”, he added.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh and on 28 September in J&K state. The initiative is to provide clean and more efficient LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) for smoke-free, less polluted, convenient and healthy lifestyle. 

Under this scheme an adult woman member of BPL family identified through SECC data is given a deposit free LPG connection with the financial assistance of rs 1600 per connection by Government of India. 

Under the aegis of the Ministry, the three public sector oil marketing companies, namely, India Oil, HPCL and BPCL are playing a major role in the execution of the scheme by taking the fuels to the underprivileged economic families.
