The festival of Dusshera was celebrated on the 22nd October after the nine days of Maha Navratri was observed by the Hindu community of Leh.

The day began with the people gathering at the temple near Pologround and offering prayer and performing havan.

Pandit Lalit Gautam spoke about the significance of Dusshera celebration. He said that on this day the good overcame evil. He narrated the event of Dusshera when Lord Ram had killed Ravan and his brothers of Lanka for their bad deeds.

The Chairman of Hindu Trust Maha Sabha Leh- Vijay Rishi said that the Hindu community in Leh have been living here since last 30-40 years and have never faced any problems as people here live peacefully. He wished prosperity for all the communities of Leh on the occasion. He also informed that the effigy of Ravan is brought from Jammu every year.

In the evening, the effigy of Ravan was burnt down at polo ground showcasing that the good always prevails over bad and the downfall of evil is eminent like the burning Ravan.

Dusshera also called Vijayadashami is celebrated on the tenth day of the month of Ashwin according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar which corresponds to September or October of the Gregorian calendar. The first nine days are celebrated as Maha Navratri or Sharada Navratri (the most important Navratri) and culminate on the tenth day as Dusshera.
