Vikram Singh Malik assumes charge of Power and New & Renewable Energy department

Vikram Singh Malik (IAS) took over the charge of Power and New &
Renewable Energy Department UT Ladakh from Ravinder Kumar (IAS). on March 6.
Subsequently, a two-day meeting was held on March 6 and 7, chaired by Vikram
Singh Malik to review the overall operations of Ladakh’s Power and New Renewable
Energy Department.
Tundup Spalzang, Superintending Engineer Distribution, Ladakh Power Development
Department (LPDD); Ghulam Mohd. Qari, Executive Engineer, ED Leh; Rinchen
Wangmo, Executive Engineer STD Leh; Ghulam Mustafa, Executive Engineer
Project Division Leh and Project Director LREDA delivered a brief presentation on
the organization’s structure, the existing scenario of the power sector of Ladakh, ongoing
works under various central schemes and budget reviews.
Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary of Power and New Renewable Energy took note of the
various important projects such as the 220 KV Nubra Zanskar Transmission Line
under PMDP-15, grid connectivity of Changthang region and loss reduction works
under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and Smart Metering projects in
Ladakh.
It was impressed upon all the stakeholders involved in these important projects the
need to step up their efforts for the timely completion of these projects. He emphasized that
the bottlenecks and reasons for the delay in these projects need to be resolved and
therefore called for detailed meetings with each agency for these projects.
The Secretary further took note of the increase in power consumption in Ladakh over
the years and need for overall improvement in the infrastructure for meeting the future
demands and reducing the ATC losses in Ladakh.
Chief General Manger POWERGRID Ltd. along with Chief Manger Rigzen
Wangchuk and Surinder Kumar also welcomed Vikram Singh Malik on assuming the
charge of the Power and NRE Department, UT Ladakh.
