Ladakh Film Industry celebrates its silver jubilee

Ladakh Media & Culture Society (LMCS) celebrated Silver Jubilee of Ladakh Film Industry on 30th November at Shenam Community Hall.
 
The Chief Guest of the occasion was CEC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa. 
 
The event was followed by some movie clippings of the Ladakh film industry since 1990, the aim of which was to show how much the industry has developed in last 25 years especially in the technology.  
 
Dr Sonam Dawa firstly congratulated LMCS and said that as the Ladakh Art and Culture section has not been allocated with enough funding into which he will make changes. He also said that the artists and makers of Ladakh film industry deserve much more appreciation than they are given. He also added that he will do everything in his power to support LMCS, especially in fulfilling their demand for a hall where these movies can be released and watched by the public.
 
Tsetan Angchok, Advisor LMCS said that they have released more than 40 feature films since 1990 and the short film and documentary are more than 100 some of which have got appreciation in foreign countries as well. He added that making Ladakhi films and Ladakhi music videos has brought positive impact in making the vernacular language in more use among the people. He added that we just need to improve in the technical field. He emphasized that the most unfortunate problems are that with development in technology piracy has become very rampant because of which the makers have had to face a lot of losses. He said that they need the administration to look into the matter.
 
He also added that there are many ways that the visual media can be working with the department of education, health or NGOs to contribute a lot in spreading awareness among the society. He also said that they are in need of a hall.
Tsewang Paljor, Special Office Cultural Academy emphasised that there is a need that for new ideas and creativity in the field. He said that they have great hopes from the new council. He added that the Ladakhi films have to be promoted as an art, media and as an industry. He said that our society needs to be open-minded about film making as a profession and not criticise the youths who show interest in such professions. 
 
Dr Sonam Dawa also launched the Audio CD of the new upcoming movie 'Lzawey Dangzer' and distributed certificates to the various production houses.
 
The vote of thanks was given by Tsering Zangpo who also emphasized upon supporting LMCS because it is a way of preserving our culture, language and traditions in some way.
