Week-long cultural revival workshop begins in Karsha Monastery, Zanskar

Week-long cultural revival workshop and language awareness camp began at Karsha monastery, Zanskar on March 4. More than 40 participants participated.

The workshop is organised by organized by LAHDC Kargil in collaboration with the Ladakh Academy of Arts, Culture, and Languages, Kargil.

Lobzang Namgyal, BDC, Karsha-Zanskar, Block Level officers of Zanskar, Monks of Karsha Monastery, artists, village representatives, and the public were present.

The week-long cultural revival workshop and language awareness camp will be held in around 25 villages of the Kargil district starting from February 16 onwards. The camp has been ideated by the Hill Council, Kargil with the aim and vision to preserve, conserve and promote the rich socio-cultural heritage of Ladakh which is equally unique and significant. It focuses on strongly upholding the tribal identity of Ladakh embedded in its different customs, traditions, rituals, and languages in the course of the developmental path that Ladakh as a Union Territory now treads upon.

Lobzang Namgyal, BDC, expressed hope that the event will achieve the vision and objective with which it was initiated by the Council & Ladakh Cultural Academy.

He added that the onus of preserving our language, culture, and heritage falls on ourselves and that we should strive internally to protect and conserve our rich tribal identity.

The BDC said the UT Ladakh Administration & Hill Council, Kargil is committed and is making concerted efforts in promoting and conserving the rich cultural heritage according to the uniqueness of Ladakh.

Workshop Coordinator highlighted the importance of Ladakh’s rich traditions, customs, language, and heritage, and the need for its promotion and preservation at the grass root level.
