STEM on Wheels: DIET Leh inspires young minds at Taru Middle school
Taru Middle School hosted an inspiring day of innovation and experiential learning as the STEM Lab Bus of DIET Leh visited the school on August 24, bringing Science and Mathematics to life through practical demonstrations, hands-on experiments and interactive activities. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal, DIET Leh, S.D. Namgail.
The STEM activities were facilitated by the Science team comprising Tsering Yangdol, Head of Department; Kunzes Dolma, Senior Lecturer; Chetna Sharma, Senior Lecturer; Sonam Diskit, Lecturer; Rashida Parveen, Lecturer; and Jigmet Namgyal, Technical Expert.
Students enthusiastically participated in a range of experiments and innovative learning activities in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The interactive sessions provided learners with opportunities to explore scientific concepts beyond the conventional classroom.
The visit transformed the school campus into a vibrant learning space where students observed, experimented, questioned and collaborated with enthusiasm. The activities helped learners connect classroom concepts with real-life applications while fostering curiosity, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and scientific thinking.
The Head of Taru Middle School appreciated DIET Leh’s efforts to take mobile STEM education to schools and emphasised the importance of such initiatives in promoting experiential and activity-based learning.
Students were also given opportunities to present their observations, helping build confidence in communication and scientific expression. Group activities encouraged peer learning, teamwork and leadership skills, while teachers benefited from observing innovative teaching methodologies that can be incorporated into regular classroom practices.
The STEM Bus initiative reflects DIET Leh’s commitment to nurturing scientific temper, innovation and inquiry-based learning across Ladakh. Through such outreach programmes, DIET Leh continues to promote activity-based education and inspire students to develop confidence, creativity and a deeper interest in Science and Mathematics.
