Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, UT Ladakh, Sanjeev Khirwar, IAS, visited Kargil district on August 13 to review the functioning of the department and assess the status of healthcare facilities in the region.
As part of the visit, the Principal Secretary inspected the 100-bedded District Hospital Kargil, taking a detailed round of various wards and departments to evaluate infrastructure, patient care services, and the availability of medical equipment. He interacted with doctors, nursing staff, and patients to understand current challenges and requirements.
He was accompanied by Tushar Anand, IAS, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM) Ladakh, and Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director Health Services, along with senior officers from the district health administration, SPO, DPO, doctors, coordinators, and consultants.
Later, a review meeting was held at the Conference Hall, Baroo, where the Principal Secretary assessed the progress of key health schemes and programmes, including ongoing NHM initiatives, maternal and child health services, immunisation campaigns, and measures to improve healthcare access in remote areas. Discussions also covered human resource allocation, supply of essential medicines, and the status of ongoing infrastructure projects.
Khirwar stressed the need for timely and accurate reporting, stronger coordination between field and administrative teams, and the efficient use of resources to deliver high-quality healthcare across Kargil. He directed that all relevant data be promptly uploaded to the Health Management Information System (HMIS), with special focus on anaemia and tuberculosis cases, and instructed officers to ensure that no post under NHM remains vacant.
Appreciating the dedication of health officials and frontline workers, Khirwar assured the UT Administration’s full support in further strengthening health services across the district.
