Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, began his maiden three-day visit to Nubra sub-division with a public durbar at the SDM Conference Hall, Diskit on September 10 assuring residents of holistic development and improved basic facilities.

Gupta said Nubra Valley, with its unique landscapes, Bactrian camels, monasteries, and Balti culture, has the potential to become one of India’s premier tourist destinations. He announced key initiatives, including the Phyang–Hunder Transmission Line for uninterrupted power, development of a civil airport at Thoise to directly link Nubra with the rest of the country, new tourist circuits, and upgraded road infrastructure.

He acknowledged challenges caused by Ladakh’s short working season and harsh winters but reiterated the Administration’s commitment to ensure reliable road connectivity, continuous electricity, 4G services, and improved healthcare and education.

The Lt Governor also said that the Administration is working to resolve issues related to the Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary, expedite transmission projects, and operationalise the Thoise civil airport at the earliest.

Earlier, EC Ghulam Mehdi and councillors from Hunder, Panamik, and Tiger raised demands related to power supply, telecom networks, healthcare, and a multipurpose hall.

Gupta later visited Disket Monastery, the 106-ft Maitreya Buddha statue, and Hunder Sand Dunes, where he interacted with monks and Bactrian camel owners. He assured that all genuine grievances would be addressed on priority.

“Every effort will be made to strengthen amenities, promote sustainable tourism, and create livelihood opportunities, so that Nubra emerges as both a leading tourist hub and a model of inclusive growth,” Gupta said.
