Kargil Vijay Diwas observed with solemn tribute in Leh

The 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was solemnly commemorated at the War Memorial in Leh, as Ladakh paid heartfelt tribute to the brave hearts of the 1999 Kargil War. The ceremony honored the unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and service of the Indian Armed Forces in securing India's victory.
In a poignant ceremony, Chairman/CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson offered a ceremonial wreath at the memorial, joining war veterans, senior officials, and citizens in remembering the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
Delivering the keynote address, Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War and highlighted the valor of Param Vir Chakra awardees and Ladakh’s own Col. Sonam Wangchuk, recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra. He commended the dedication of soldiers posted in extreme terrains like Ladakh and reaffirmed the UT Administration’s unwavering support for armed and paramilitary forces. Reflecting on operations like Vijay and Sindoor, he urged citizens to uphold national unity and commitment, especially in strategically vital regions.
Addressing the gathering, CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson recalled the harsh conditions of the Kargil conflict and the immense bravery displayed by Indian soldiers. He stressed that Kargil Vijay Diwas is not merely symbolic but a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made for India’s sovereignty. He called on every citizen to contribute to nation-building by fulfilling their fundamental duties, noting that patriotism must extend beyond observance to active participation in the country’s progress.
also highlighted Operation Sindoor, recognizing the ongoing sacrifices made by the armed forces beyond the Kargil conflict. He paid special tribute to the families of martyrs, describing them as the silent pillars of strength behind every soldier.
As a mark of respect and gratitude, traditional Pheypor and shawls were presented to Kargil War heroes and their families by the dignitaries.
The commemoration served not only as a tribute to fallen soldiers but also as a powerful reminder that freedom is not free—it is earned through sacrifice, defended by courage, and sustained by collective responsibility.
