Free knee and hip replacement camp begins in Kargil; 60+ patients registered

Kargil :

A three-day Total Knee and Hip Replacement Surgery Camp organized by the Baqirya Health Care and Research Center (BHC&RC) in collaboration with the Department of Health, LAHDC Kargil, commenced in Kargil on July 22.

The camp was formally inaugurated by Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, CEC, LAHDC Kargil. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Atique Vasudev—Director of the Knee Division at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram—Sheikh Mohammad Sadiq Rajai, Chairman of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) Kargil, along with BHC&RC and IKMT volunteers, senior citizens, and other officials.

The surgeries during the camp are being conducted under the expert supervision of Dr. Atique Vasudev, who is volunteering his services once again to serve the people of Kargil.

In his address, Dr. Akhoon lauded the ongoing efforts of BHC&RC and its volunteers in providing specialized healthcare services to the underprivileged. He described their work as “incredible” and urged the organization to continue holding similar camps in the future for the benefit of economically disadvantaged patients. He also reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all, particularly those who cannot afford treatment outside the region.

Speaking on the occasion, BHC&RC Vice President Dr. Oliyat Ali highlighted that the first such camp was held in 2019, during which 23 knee replacements and one hip replacement were successfully performed. He added that this year, around 60 patients have registered for knee replacements, along with several cases for hip replacement surgeries.

Dr. Oliyat also extended his gratitude to Dr. Atique Vasudev for his continued voluntary service and dedication to delivering expert medical care in Kargil.
