DLSA Leh marks World Tribal Day with awareness-cum-celebration programme in Turtuk

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Leh celebrated World Tribal Day with an awareness programme on the NALSA (Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights) Scheme at Government Higher Secondary School, Turtuk on August 9.
The event was held under the patronage of Chief Justice Arun Palli, Patron-in-Chief, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, and the guidance of Justice Sindhu Sharma, Executive Chairperson, LLSA. It was organised under the leadership of Manoj Parihar, Member Secretary, LLSA & Chairman, DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Leh, and Phuntsog Angmo, Secretary, DLSA Leh.
The programme began with an introduction to the NALSA scheme by Adv. Zulekha Bano, Panel Lawyer, followed by a presentation on the history and culture of the Balti tribe by Inayatullah, Nambardar, Turtuk.
Phuntsog Angmo highlighted various legal aid schemes available for tribals and women. Students from GHSS Turtuk and GHSS Tyakshi showcased their talents through Balti and Ladakhi cultural dances.
Addressing the gathering, Manoj Parihar shared insights from the North Zone Conference held by the High Court in July, with special emphasis on tribal rights, and informed about welfare schemes launched for tribal communities. Certificates were awarded to participants and meritorious students.
The Principal, GHSS Turtuk, encouraged students to learn about their legal rights. Stalls displaying tribal products and traditional Balti cuisine were set up in collaboration with Raichan Farol Local Women Self-Help Group.
Adv. Mohd Nazir, Panel Lawyer, conducted the proceedings, while Lakshay Badyal, Chairman TLSC Nubra/Mobile Magistrate, Leh, delivered the vote of thanks.
As part of the visit, the Principal District Judge Leh inspected the Munsiff Court Nubra, Legal Aid Clinics at Turtuk and Bogdang, and the front desk at Diskit.
