DC Leh chairs meeting on welfare of persons with disabilities Reviews UDID implementation, screening camps, and inclusive outreach initiatives

Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk (IAS), chaired a review meeting on July 21 to assess the implementation of various schemes and targeted initiatives for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The meeting was held at the VC Room of the DC Office, Leh.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Leh, Dr. Dolma Chuskit, presented a detailed overview of the Unique Disability ID (UDID) project. She informed the committee that the disability certification process has transitioned to an online platform, with a dedicated medical board responsible for assessment and certification. As of now, 1,260 disability certificates have been issued through the UDID portal.

Responding to queries from the DC regarding Community Health Centre (CHC)-level screenings and outreach efforts, the CMO reported that recent screening camps have been conducted at Kharnakling, with previous camps held in Khaltsi. Outreach activities are ongoing in both schools and community settings.

Chief Education Officer Leh informed that a comprehensive awareness schedule has been developed, and school-based campaigns will resume post-vacation.

DC Donk stressed the importance of expanding disability screening beyond schools to ensure greater accessibility and timely intervention. He instructed concerned officials to share detailed campaign schedules with his office for better coordination and monitoring.

The meeting also discussed a proposal under the Accessible India Campaign, focusing on creating barrier-free infrastructure and promoting inclusivity in public spaces.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS); Chief Planning Officer, Tsewang Gyalson; Chief Medical Officer; Chief Education Officer; and other officials from relevant departments.
