Child Welfare units mark International Day against child labour with joint inspection

Marking the International Day Against Child Labour, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Kargil, in collaboration with the Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) Kargil, and Child Helpline 1098, conducted a joint inspection drive across various industrial and commercial sites in Kurbathang and adjoining areas on June 12.
The inspection team visited workshops, garages, eateries, and other business establishments to detect instances of child labour and raise awareness about existing child protection laws, including the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
During the drive, employers and local residents were sensitized on the long-term harm caused by child labour and were encouraged to uphold children’s rights to education, safety, and development.
Officials from DCPU Kargil emphasized the need for collective community responsibility in protecting children and urged the public to report any cases of child labour through the Child Helpline 1098 or the PENCIL Portal.
The initiative reinforces the commitment of child welfare authorities in Kargil to eradicate child labour and ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all children.
