A three-day Capacity Building Programme on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was inaugurated on August 4 by the Directorate of School Education, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The programme is aimed at empowering government school teachers across Ladakh with contemporary pedagogical skills and digital competencies.

Around 70 teachers from various government schools participated in the training, which has been designed, developed, and delivered by CBSE’s Training Unit. The programme focuses on inclusive pedagogies, experiential learning, digital integration, and competency-based assessment strategies, in line with NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.

The inaugural session was graced by Rahul Singh, IAS, Chairman, CBSE, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Bhanu Prabha, IAS, Secretary, School Education, UT Ladakh; Manoj Kumar Srivastava, Director (Training), CBSE; Tsering Paldan, Director, School Education, UT Ladakh; and Zakir Hussain, Joint Director, School Education, UT Ladakh.

In his address, CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh stressed the urgent need for in-house capacity building of teachers across subjects and grade levels. He encouraged stakeholders to design need-based training programmes informed by board examination results and PARAKH assessments. He also emphasized the importance of making subject-specific trainers available across all regions, and urged teachers to use the programme as an opportunity to reflect, grow, and address learning gaps.

Bhanu Prabha, Secretary, School Education, UT Ladakh, shared insights into Ladakhi students’ performance in recent CBSE board examinations and underscored the importance of contextualized, focused training to improve learning outcomes in government schools. She reiterated the UT Administration’s commitment to teacher development.

Manoj Kumar Srivastava, Director (Training), CBSE, commended the Department of School Education, UT Ladakh, for the initiative. He introduced CBSE’s new training modules focused on bridging the gap between policy and classroom practice through competency-based, inclusive, and digital training models.

Over the next three days, participants will engage in interactive sessions, hands on activities, peer learning, reflective exercises, and action planning. The training is aligned with real classroom challenges and aims to equip teachers with tools to deliver a curriculum that is inclusive, experiential, and competency-driven.
