20 NCC cadets embark on Siachen trekking expedition

The maiden NCC trekking expedition to the Siachen Base Camp was flagged off on July 21 by Brigadier Deepak Sajjanhar, SM, Commander NCC Group Srinagar, from the iconic Hall of Fame War Memorial in Leh.
The expedition comprises 20 cadets—10 girls and 10 boys—from the NCC Directorate of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. The cadets underwent a four-day acclimatization program in Leh from July 17 to 21. During their stay, they visited various historical and heritage sites, gaining insights into the rich cultural legacy of Ladakh and the valor of Indian war heroes.
As part of the expedition, the cadets will visit the Partapur Brigade, where they will interact with senior commanders and decorated war veterans. They will be the first NCC group to trek to the Siachen Base Camp, where they will receive training in rock craft and ice craft before undertaking the trek.
The expedition aims to provide the cadets with exposure to the highest battlefield in the world, instill mountaineering skills, and inspire them to consider careers in the Armed Forces.
