UT Ladakh administration resolute in rebuilding flood-affected areas: LG Kavinder Gupta

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the UT Administration towards the speedy restoration and holistic development of flood-affected areas in the region. He assured that every possible measure is being taken to rehabilitate affected families and rebuild damaged infrastructure with a long-term vision of resilience and sustainability.
The LG stated this during an interaction with a delegation led by Councillor from Chushul, Konchok Stanzin, at the LG Secretariat on September 1. He assured the members that the administration is working in mission mode to ensure timely grievance redressal and restoration of normalcy. Special focus, he said, is being placed on vulnerable sections—including women, children, and the elderly—to safeguard their welfare.
Highlighting the coordinated efforts, the LG said that all government departments are working in close collaboration with local authorities to expedite relief operations, restore essential services, and reconstruct vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and public utilities. He also encouraged community participation in monitoring relief measures to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Reiterating the Administration’s vision, Kavinder Gupta said that the recovery process will not only address immediate rehabilitation but also enhance the region’s preparedness against future natural calamities—building resilience and fostering sustainable development.
Earlier, Councillor Konchok Stanzin briefed the LG about the damages caused by the August 12 flash floods in Maan and Merak villages, and highlighted challenges related to connectivity, housing, and livelihood in flood-hit areas.
In a series of meetings, delegations from across Ladakh also called on the LG:
A delegation from Liktse village led by His Eminence Khamtak Rinpoche sought support for the sustenance of 1.5 lakh saplings planted over the past three years and requested assistance for developing a community centre to promote traditional education among youth.
A delegation of artisans apprised the LG of the upcoming Enchanting Ladakh event and the India International Trade Fair (IITF), requesting relocation of Ladakhi artisans’ stalls at Dilli Haat.
Representatives of the All Ladakh Transport Association raised demands related to blacktopping, parking space, and basic facilities at the transport union site in Bomb Garh.
Giving a patient hearing to all delegations, the LG expressed satisfaction over the constructive discussions and assured that their concerns would be integrated into ongoing recovery and development plans. He reiterated that the UT Administration remains fully committed not only to restoring flood-affected areas but also to promoting livelihood opportunities, cultural preservation, and infrastructure development across Ladakh.
Emphasizing the importance of local participation, Kavinder Gupta said that continuous engagement with communities and stakeholders will remain central to the Administration’s approach, ensuring that Ladakh’s development is inclusive, transparent, and sustainable.
