MP Hanifa Jan begins week-long tour of Kargil district

Member of Parliament for Ladakh, Mohd Hanifa Jan, began a week-long tour of Kargil district on July 13, starting with the Shakar-Chiktan subdivision, where he visited several villages and hamlets over two days to review developmental activities and address public grievances.
On the first day, MP Hanifa Jan was accompanied by ADC Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, SDM Shakar-Chiktan, and officials from various line departments. He conducted public darbars and interacted with local delegations in Heniskote, Stakchay-Khangral, Mundik, Bodh Kharbu, and other nearby villages.
The second day saw the MP visiting Sanjak, Chiktan, Hagnis, Shakar Yokma Kharbu, Lamsu, and Sandow, joined by Executive Councillor Zakir Hussain and other departmental heads.
Addressing the gatherings, MP Hanifa Jan stated that this was his first official visit to the subdivision since assuming office, aimed at assessing developmental progress on the ground and understanding community concerns related to centrally and state-sponsored schemes.
Public delegations raised a variety of issues including, delays in Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) implementation, road upgrades and blacktopping, banking services, particularly the need for J&K Bank branches, access roads to grazing lands and nallah bund protection, construction of health centres and ice hockey rinks, sanctioning of physicians and gynaecologists and improving mobile network connectivity
In response, the MP assured villagers that demands would be addressed in a phased and prioritized manner, with particular attention to urgent and underserved areas.
At Bodh Kharbu, the MP committed to exploring the construction of a guest house at the Photang site in view of the upcoming visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2026. He also assured necessary infrastructure improvements near the Guru Padmasambhava Rinpoche Statue.
Highlighting the need to prioritize education, he urged parents to enrol their children in government schools and stressed that strengthening public education infrastructure is vital for inclusive development.
During the tour, MP Hanifa Jan also inaugurated a BSNL mobile tower benefiting Pacharik and Kuksho villages. He further announced special documentation camps in Dargo, Pacharik, and Kuksho to facilitate domicile registration and essential paperwork.
The MP also interacted with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), praising their efforts in promoting women-led entrepreneurship. He assured support in capacity building and market linkage, especially lauding Almadar Bakers, a local SHG known for its traditional sweets and innovative products.
Concluding his visit, MP Hanifa Jan reiterated his commitment to grassroots development, stating, “I am here because of your trust and cooperation. I will do everything in my capacity to bring development and dignity to your lives.”
Memorandums outlining various development demands were submitted by villagers. The MP also took stock of pending projects and instructed officials to accelerate implementation in coordination with the District Administration and LAHDC.
The visit marked a significant effort toward bridging governance and grassroots realities, reflecting the MP’s hands-on approach in engaging with communities and responding to local needs.
