LG Kavinder Gupta makes first visit to Kargil, pledges holistic development

On his maiden visit to Kargil, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, interacted with various public delegations at Bodh Kharbu, Mulbekh, Shargole, and Pashkum, assessing development activities and gathering local feedback.
At Bodh Kharbu, the LG was warmly received by Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, along with Executive Councillors Kacho Mohd Feroz and Zakir Hussain; Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar; SSP Shree Raam R; and other senior district officials.
Addressing the gathering, the LG expressed his delight at visiting Kargil and assured immediate relief for families affected by the recent cloudburst. A survey team has been formed to assess damages and initiate timely compensation.
Stressing holistic and inclusive development, the LG called for active coordination among LAHDC, district administration, and civil society, with a focus on promoting tourism and youth livelihood opportunities. He assured that demands related to road upgrades, healthcare, education, lift irrigation, and other civic amenities would be carefully reviewed for resolution.
At Shargole, the LG announced the upgrade of the Primary Health Centre to a Community Health Centre and the establishment of a public administration complex to strengthen local governance.
At Bodh Kharbu’s Photang, he committed to supporting the construction of a guest house to accommodate visitors and dignitaries.
During a stop at the 8th-century Maitreya Buddha statue in Mulbekh, the LG received a warm welcome with traditional khataks, folk songs, and cultural performances. Local villagers requested his support for the conservation of the heritage site and development of the monastery premises. The LG assured necessary steps would be taken.
Chairman Dr. Jaffer Akhoon expressed optimism about equitable progress in both Leh and Kargil under the LG’s leadership, stating that his visit signals a new era of inclusive growth and collaborative development in Ladakh.
