Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, was called upon by a delegation of the Ladakh Cultural Forum on August 18, seeking urgent and systematic implementation of Bhoti as an official language in the Union Territory of Ladakh and LAHDC Leh.

The delegation included Joint Secretary Dr. Tsewang Gyaltson; President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association Language Committee, Dr. Jigmet Dadul, along with members; Vice President of the All Ladakh Gonpa Association, Geshe Lobzang Tashi; and representatives of Bhoti teachers.

Acknowledging the recognition of Bhoti under the Ladakh Official Language Act as a historic milestone, the members emphasized that the language must now be fully integrated into governance, administration, education, and cultural institutions to safeguard Ladakh’s identity and secure its linguistic future.

The representation put forth demands for the establishment of a Bhoti Development Board, welfare measures and recruitment of Bhoti teachers, inclusion of Bhoti in examinations, and strengthening of higher education and cultural institutions. It further urged the functional use of Bhoti in administration through translators, signage, and official documents, as well as improved pay and positions for teachers serving in remote areas.

Responding to the concerns, the CEC assured the delegation that the Council remains fully committed to the preservation and promotion of Bhoti. He added that these matters will be taken up with the UT Administration to ensure Bhoti attains its rightful place as an official language in governance, education, and public life across Ladakh.
