L-G Kavinder Gupta holds introductory meet with Councillors and HoDs in Kargil

Kargil :

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, held an introductory meeting with the Councillors of LAHDC Kargil on July 27 at the Conference Hall, followed by a meeting with Heads of Departments (HoDs) of various departments in Kargil district.

Emphasising his commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Prime Minister, LG Gupta called for collective efforts by all stakeholders and the UT Administration to ensure the welfare and progress of the people of Ladakh. He stressed the need for effective implementation of centrally-sponsored schemes, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, to foster an inclusive and educated society.

He urged the Ladakh Police to take timely measures to curb offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and reiterated the importance of timely completion of developmental projects, stating that he would soon begin reviewing departmental progress.

Chairman/CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon raised several key demands, including the granting of district status to Sankoo and Shakar-Chiktan, making Hill Council funds non-lapsable, the extension and resumption of civilian flights from Kargil Airport, and fast-tracking recruitment to address rising unemployment.

Councillor Silmoo and former CEC Feroz Ahmed Khan emphasised strengthening LAHDC as an institution and implementing a robust tourism policy. Executive Councillor Phunsok Tashi called for an increased Capex budget and the swift operationalisation of the Engineering College in Kargil.

During the HoD meeting, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), presented a detailed overview of ongoing development projects in the district. SSP Kargil, Shree Raam R (IPS), also shared a presentation on the achievements and initiatives of the Ladakh Police.
