Kisan mela-cum-fruit exhibition 2025 showcases Ladakh’s horticultural potential at Khaltse

The Horticulture Department, Leh, organised the Kisan Mela-cum-Fruit Exhibition 2025 at the SDM Ground, Khaltse, on August 11, featuring a vibrant display of fruits, flowers, and horticultural tools and machinery offered at subsidised rates.
The event was attended by Councillor Khaltse, Lobzang Sherab, as Chief Guest; SDM Khaltse, Mohd Sharif, as Guest of Honour; and Director Horticulture, UT Ladakh, Tsewang Phuntsog, as Special Guest, along with several senior horticulture experts and local leaders.
In his address, Councillor Sherab stressed the importance of recognising farmers’ contributions, ensuring timely access to resources, and blending modern technology with traditional practices for sustainable horticulture. SDM Sharif promoted organic farming and encouraged diversification in fruit cultivation, while Director Phuntsog highlighted Ladakh’s unique microclimate and its potential for cultivating diverse apricot varieties.
Experts from CAZRI Leh, KVK Leh, Horticulture Department Kargil, and Himmotthan Society shared innovative research techniques and best practices to support local farmers. Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh, Kunzang Wangmo, detailed departmental schemes and inaugurated a one-year Planning Book.
The exhibition saw enthusiastic participation from farmers across villages, with prizes awarded in various fruit categories. The event served as a platform for celebrating agricultural achievements, fostering collaboration, and promoting innovation in Ladakh’s horticulture sector.
