Green Initiative: DLSA Kargil and Forest Department conduct tree plantation drive

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil, in collaboration with the Forest Department, organized a mega plantation drive at the New District Court Complex, Kurbathang.

The drive was inaugurated by Spalzes Angmo, Chairperson of DLSA, in the presence of Tsering Wangial, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kargil, and Chemit Yurgyal, Secretary DLSA Kargil. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from DLSA Panel Lawyers, members of the Bar Association, staff of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), court staff, forest officials, and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs).

As part of Phase-I of the drive, a variety of saplings—including Willow, Juniper, Cherry, Chestnut (Castanea sativa), and Deodar (Cedrus deodara)—were planted in the premises of the New District Court Complex by the dignitaries and participants.

While planting the saplings, Chairperson Spalzes Angmo emphasized the environmental benefits of plantation in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating the adverse effects of dry seasons.

Addressing the gathering, Secretary DLSA Chemit Yurgyal highlighted the importance of trees in promoting greenery, enhancing aesthetic appeal, and fostering an eco-friendly environment. He also underlined the legal and moral responsibilities of citizens in conserving forests and protecting trees.
