Executive Councillor (EC), LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz conducted a comprehensive tour of several villages in Sankoo subdivision on June 16, including Lankerchey, Thangbu, Stakpa, Umba, Malik Bar, and Shila Bar. The visit aimed to review ongoing developmental works, inspect infrastructure, and directly engage with the local population to address pressing concerns.

EC Feroz was accompanied by Councillor Ghulam Haider, SDM Sankoo, Executive Engineer of Irrigation, AEEs from Irrigation and PMGSY, JEs, and officials from all relevant departments. Their presence facilitated real-time redressal of various public issues raised during the tour.

At Government Middle School Lankerchey, the EC interacted with students, encouraging them to overcome language barriers, utilize educational resources effectively, and remain committed to their academic goals. He emphasized the importance of guidance and equal attention in classrooms. Teachers shared the need for more resources, including the appointment of a Hindi teacher. The EC asked them to submit a formal memorandum and assured immediate action.

In Thangbu village, locals submitted a memorandum of grievances, which were later discussed at a public meeting in Panchayat Ghar Stakpa, where irrigation-related concerns dominated the dialogue. Executive Engineer Ghulam Hussain addressed many of the concerns on the spot and shared his contact details to ensure continued public access and communication.

At every location, EC Feroz urged departments to complete developmental works within the active construction season, stressing timely budget utilization and warning against disruptions that could hinder project execution. He assured the villagers of the administration’s commitment to resolving genuine issues with transparency and urgency.

In Malik Bar-2, villagers demanded the reconstruction of irrigation canals, PMGSY road restoration, an ice hockey rink, and a footbridge for livestock and agriculture. Councillor Ghulam Haider thanked the EC for his proactive outreach and expressed hope for the timely resolution of these demands.

At Panchayat Ghar Umba, residents raised demands including kul reconstruction at the headwork, provision of JJM pipelines, and upgrading the local high school to higher secondary level. EC Feroz assured that these issues would be taken up with concerned departments and promised support under the Special Development Package (SDP), subject to fund availability.

In Shila Bar, where water scarcity is a major challenge, villagers requested road widening, blacktopping, and construction of irrigation kuls. The EC directed concerned departments to immediately prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and informed the villagers that some projects are already in process and will soon be tendered.

He appealed for public cooperation during project execution and cautioned that local disputes could lead to delays and loss of funding. He emphasized that successful implementation not only delivers infrastructure improvements but also builds trust and attracts further investment.

Throughout the tour, EC Kacho Mohd Feroz reiterated LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to participatory governance and inclusive development. He assured the public that all genuine concerns would be addressed seriously and stressed the importance of continuous collaboration between communities and the administration to achieve long-term progress.
