CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, conducted an extensive inspection on July 20 of ongoing development works at the Parkachik-Khaus Irrigation Canal, constructed through a tunnel, aimed at improving irrigation infrastructure and promoting sustainable water management in the region.

During the field visit, Dr. Akhoon personally inspected the under-construction tunnel, accompanied by senior departmental officials. He appreciated the dedication of the engineering team on-site and encouraged them to maintain quality standards and expedite the project. Officials assured the CEC that the work is progressing smoothly and will be completed soon.

Expressing satisfaction, CEC said, “Witnessing such significant and impactful development projects reinforces our commitment to public service and the prosperity of rural communities.”

Officials from the irrigation department informed the CEC that repair work on the flood-damaged canal base has been completed, and emergency water flow is expected to resume within a week. Dr. Akhoon commended the team for their consistent and timely efforts. He further informed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been submitted to strengthen the canal infrastructure, and the proposal has been included in the District CAPEX Budget for 2026–27.

During an interaction with villagers, concerns regarding pending land compensation were raised. Dr. Akhoon directed Executive Engineer SVD Sankoo and Naib Tehsildar Taisuru to resolve the matter promptly, stressing that both compensation and land demarcation be prioritised.

Villagers also appealed for the construction of a link road from Imam Jaffar Musallah to Ranthak. Responding positively, the CEC directed the Executive Engineer to prepare and submit a DPR after confirming land availability.

The Nambardar and residents of Parkachik expressed gratitude to the CEC, the local councillor, and departmental officials for their proactive response and continued support.

Dr. Akhoon also assured that the fodder shortage issue would be addressed by allocating funds under the Disaster Management head.

Later, the CEC visited a site severely impacted by soil erosion and announced ₹5 lakh from the Untied Fund for temporary river channelisation work to mitigate further damage caused by high water flow.

At Tsokjuk Yokma, Parkachik, villagers raised concerns over debris dumped on their land during highway construction and the construction of a brace wall (jali) obstructing traditional livestock routes. Highlighting the hardship caused by long detours, villagers urged immediate redressal.

Taking swift action, Dr. Akhoon contacted the Manager of Topline PMU and instructed that the debris be cleared without delay. He also spoke with the General Manager of NHIDCL, seeking a permanent solution to restore traditional livestock movement routes.

The CEC was accompanied by Chief Engineer PHE/I&FC Haji Abass, Executive Engineer SVD Sankoo Syed Mehdi, Assistant Executive Engineer Mohd Sadiq, and Naib Tehsildar Taisuru Mohd Abass Wazir.

Dr. Akhoon later visited Sangrah to inspect the old iron bridge and the ongoing Sangrah link road project. He directed officials to ensure timely completion while maintaining the highest standards of construction quality.
