A 50-bed hostel, dedicated to the memory of legendary freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, was inaugurated at Government High School Bodhkharbu on August 8 to provide safe accommodation and improved educational access for students from far-flung areas of Ladakh.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Director of School Education, UT Ladakh, as Chief Guest, along with Councillor Stakchay Khangral Padma Dorjay, the District Planning Officer (Education Department) Kargil, senior officials, and officers from the Indian Army’s 5 Bihar Regiment and 17 Madras Regiment.

The event opened with a student-led pipe and band performance, which was warmly received by the audience. This was followed by vibrant cultural presentations by local villagers and students, showcasing the region’s rich traditions. The programme concluded with a traditional group dance, joined by guests, villagers, and students, symbolising unity and community spirit.

Officials noted that the hostel reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and fostering holistic development in rural and remote areas. The facility is expected to create a supportive environment for students to pursue their academic aspirations while staying connected to their cultural roots.
