Students in Sakti sensitised on Diarrhoea prevention and hygiene practices
As part of the STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2026–27, being observed from July 10 to August 21 under the directions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, an awareness programme on the prevention and management of diarrhoea was conducted at Manjushri Lamdon Model School, PM SHRI Government Middle School, Sakti, and the adjoining ICDS Centres.
The programme was led by Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, Medical Officer, AAM-PHC Sakti, along with Palkit, FMPHW, and ASHA workers. Students, teachers, Anganwadi Workers, ASHAs and school staff participated enthusiastically, making the sessions interactive and informative.
Participants were sensitised about the causes, prevention and early treatment of diarrhoeal diseases, particularly among children. The team highlighted the importance of safe drinking water, food hygiene, sanitation, water quality testing and personal hygiene in preventing diarrhoeal illnesses.
A practical demonstration on SUMAN-K Hand Washing was conducted for students and teachers, during which participants were taught the correct hand-washing technique and informed about the critical times when hands should be washed to prevent the spread of infections.
Special emphasis was laid on the correct preparation and administration of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and the use of Zinc tablets in the treatment of childhood diarrhoea. Participants were informed that timely administration of ORS and Zinc helps prevent dehydration, shortens the duration of diarrhoea and significantly reduces complications and child mortality.
To improve preparedness and ensure easy access to essential supplies, ORS and Zinc Corners were established at both schools and the attached ICDS Centres. These corners have been stocked with ORS packets and Zinc tablets to facilitate prompt management of diarrhoeal cases while reinforcing health education.
The programme concluded with an appeal to students, teachers, Anganwadi Workers, and community members to adopt healthy hygiene practices, promote regular handwashing with soap, ensure safe drinking water, and spread awareness about diarrhoea prevention and timely treatment within their families and communities.
The initiative reflects AAM-PHC Sakti's commitment to improving child health and achieving the objectives of the STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2026–27 under the slogan "STOP Diarrhoea – Save Lives."
