SDM Durbuk visits pioneer organic mushroom cultivation site at Yurgoo Inaugurates first oyster mushroom harvest, lauds sustainable farming initiatives by Department of Agriculture

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Durbuk, Mohd. Ismail, visited the pioneering organic oyster mushroom cultivation unit of beneficiary Konchok Dolker at Yurgoo village on July 10.

During the visit, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), Durbuk Zone, Chimet Lhamo, briefed the SDM on the complete mushroom production process, including substrate preparation, spawning, crop management and harvesting. She informed that the beneficiary had received training in organic mushroom cultivation from the Department of Agriculture and that the first harvest is typically ready within 25 days under proper management.

The SDM also inspected vegetable cultivation under mulching practices in the beneficiary's Domestic Ladakh Greenhouse, where crops including spinach, Chinese cabbage, pak choi, tomato, coriander, cabbage, cauliflower and muskmelon are being grown.

The beneficiary shared her experience of adopting organic farming and sustainable cultivation practices.

The visit concluded with the SDM inaugurating the first harvest of organically grown oyster mushrooms. He appreciated the efforts of the beneficiary and the Department of Agriculture in promoting innovative, climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices in the Durbuk Sub-Division.
