Week long sterilization, dog adoption campaign held in Chushul

A campaign was organized with an aim to adopt a dog per household as a pet and sterilization of feral dog from 7 to 14 July in Chushul. The initiative was organised by Youth association Chushul in collaboration with NCF in support of Animal Husbandry and MC Leh.

Mumtaz Hussain,EC Animal Husbandry, chief guest appreciated the initiative of the Youth Association,Chushul and NCF to focus on an adoption of dog by the families.  He assured support in future also for such campaign.

Tsering Gyaltsen, President Youth Association Chushul said, “The feral dog menace is growing day by day because of which the population of livestock and wildlife growth is also decreasing. With an aim to maintain balance of life cycle and environment, we have initiated this programme.” 

Konchok Stanzin, Councilor said that the feral dogs in whole Durbuk block has been creating menace to the livestock and also poses threat to the humans. Adoption policy of dog as a pet is a smart way of solving the issue of dogs in the region.

He requested EC Animal Husbandry to conduct such sterilization programme in future in all villages of Durbuk block particularly in the army areas.

Stanzin Dorjey, Doctor Animal Husbandry briefed about the process of sterilization and diseases related to dog bite.

Skarma Sonam, NCF Field Coordinator talked about their programme related to wildlife and livestock.
