Teaching on Shantideva's ‘A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life’ by His Holiness concludes
All sufferings in the world are created by ourselves and one should fight to overcome it

His Holiness  Dalai Lama conferred three days long teaching on Shantideva's- ‘A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life’ (Chodjug) and Long Life Empowerment from July 28 to 30 at Jevetsal, Shey.  Thousands of devotees from across Ladakh gathered to seek his blessing.

On the first two days, Shantideva's A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life (Chodjug) and on the last day Long life empowerment was bestowed. 
During his previous visit to Ladakh, His Holiness explained the first-three chapters of ‘Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’ and the remaining chapters were conferred this year.

Focusing on the importance of Love, Compassion and Peace of mind to lead a happy and meaningful life, Dalai Lama said, “Scientists say that constant anger and fear destroy the immune system of a person which leads to loss of peace of mind.” 

“Today we see lots of killings and hatred in the world due to lack of love and compassion. It (Love and Compassion) guarantee peace and harmony among all sentient beings. In every religion, love and compassion are taught but we must cultivate inner values and practice those in our daily lives so that we can bring peace to the society, nation, and world as a whole.” 

Talking about increasing suicide rates, His Holiness said, “All sufferings in this world are created by ourselves and we only can fight to end it. Negative thoughts and jealousy give way to competition and when one fails to fulfill it, people end up taking their life. In Ladakh also, I have heard several cases of suicide particularly among the youths which are very unfortunate. To cope with these, interdependent, cooperative nature and developing the sense of compassion and love is very much necessary.”

On the last day of the teaching Mehbooba Mufti, CM of J&K was also present. She said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are fortunate and blessed to have Dalai Lama every year. She asked His Holiness to shower his blessings in the region so that peace and harmony can be maintained.

Talking about the government’s plans and vision for Ladakh region, Mehbooba Mufti said, “Our plan is to take Ladakh region to a new height both nationally and internationally. Also, the route for Mt. Kailash Yatra is opened from Ladakh which is also one of the visions of the government.”

Tsewang Thinles, President LBA said, “It is very fortunate to have His Holiness in Ladakh for a month during which he also visited Nubra and Zanskar”.

He also expressed gratitude for accepting the request by HH to visit Ladakh every year and to confer teachings despite numerous requests from all over the world.
“His Holiness’ visit and preaching bring immense change in the mind of people towards understanding the importance of love, peace and teachings of Buddha.  Moreover, his visit strengthens communal harmony in the region.”

On the last day, a grand Tenshug was also offered.
