Ladakh’s Jigmet Chunzen named Captain of Indian Women’s Futsal team
Futsal player Jigmet Chunzen, hailing from Ladakh, is set to make her India debut as team captain in the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship, marking a significant milestone for the region as Indian talent from Ladakh takes centre stage at the international level. The tournament is being held in Thailand.
Her appointment as captain underscores the growing recognition of sports talent from Ladakh on the national platform. Speaking ahead of the tournament, Captain Chunzen expressed strong confidence and ambition, stating that although the championship is being organized for the first time, the Indian squad has arrived with a clear objective—to win the tournament.
The Indian team, popularly known as the ‘Futsal Tigresses’, will begin their campaign against Maldives on Tuesday, January 13.
Meanwhile, Administrative Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, Moses Kunzang (JKAS), extended his heartfelt congratulations to Jigmet Chunzen on being named captain of the Indian team for the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship. He described her achievement as a historic milestone that brings immense pride to the entire region of Ladakh.
Kunzang hailed Chunzen as a trailblazing role model, stating that her historic achievement would inspire the youth of Ladakh to pursue excellence in sports and strive for higher levels of achievement at national and international platforms.
