WAVES Film Bazaar 2025 concludes; Ladakhi Film ‘Kakthet’ shines with top honor
WAVES Film Bazaar 2025 concluded on a celebratory note on November 25, with the Ladakhi-language feature Kakthet (Idiot) emerging as one of the standout winners of the prestigious event.
The film secured the top prize in the Co-Production Features category, receiving a cash grant of $10,000.
Directed by Stenzin Tankong and produced by Ritu Sarin, Tenzing Sonam, and Rajesh Thanickan, Kakthet is an India–France co-production that delivers a powerful narrative deeply rooted in Ladakh’s cultural and social fabric. Its compelling storyline, authentic regional voice, and refined cinematic execution left a strong impact on the jury.
WAVES Film Bazaar—widely recognized as a premier platform for South Asian independent cinema—once again brought together filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals from around the world.
The recognition for Kakthet marks a significant moment for Ladakhi cinema, showcasing its rising potential on the international stage.
