A nationwide manuscript survey under the “Gyan Bharatam Programme” was formally launched on March 16, marking a significant step towards documenting and preserving India’s rich manuscript heritage.

As part of the initiative, the survey has also been extended to the Union Territory of Ladakh. In its initial phase, the programme will focus on the identification, survey, and listing of manuscripts created prior to 1947, in accordance with prescribed guidelines.

In this regard, heads of monasteries across Ladakh, as well as members of the general public, have been urged to actively participate in the initiative. Individuals and institutions possessing such manuscripts are encouraged to register them through the “Gyan Bharatam App,” a user-friendly mobile application available on app stores.

The first phase places special emphasis on surveying and cataloguing manuscripts across the region to create a comprehensive repository of Ladakh’s valuable manuscript heritage.

Public participation is crucial for the success of this collective effort aimed at preserving and promoting the region’s cultural and historical legacy.

For registration and assistance, interested individuals may download the application or contact the helpline numbers: 7051731237 and 9622990708.
