Students explore higher education opportunities at GDC Zanskar counselling session
Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organised an Interactive and Career Counselling Programme on June 10 in collaboration with Sindhu Central University, Ladakh, with the aim of creating awareness among students about higher education opportunities, scholarships, admissions, internships, and career prospects offered by the university.
The programme was graced by Prof. Deshyong Namgyal and Dr. Tashi Tundup, faculty members of Sindhu Central University, who interacted extensively with the faculty and students of GDC Zanskar.
In his welcome address, Principal of the college, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi highlighted the importance of such outreach programmes in helping students make informed academic and career choices. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of Prof. Deshyong Namgyal towards the development of higher education in Ladakh and his role in strengthening the University of Ladakh.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Deshyong Namgyal provided a comprehensive overview of the academic programmes offered by Sindhu Central University. He informed students about various postgraduate programmes, including M.Tech, Master’s in Buddhist Studies, Public Policy, and several certificate courses and internship opportunities currently available at the university.
He emphasized that many of these programmes are being offered in collaboration with premier institutions such as IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, providing students with access to quality education and advanced learning opportunities. He further highlighted that students from Ladakh have a unique opportunity to pursue higher studies through scholarships and other academic support mechanisms available at the university.
Prof. Namgyal encouraged students to take advantage of the ongoing admission process and explore the diverse educational avenues offered by Sindhu Central University.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tashi Tundup, Assistant Professor, Department of Buddhist Studies, Sindhu Central University, shared valuable insights into the admission process and discussed the scope and relevance of Buddhist Studies as an academic discipline. He observed that while students from across India travel to Ladakh to pursue studies in Buddhist Studies, many local students remain unaware of the opportunities available within their own region.
He urged students to make full use of the academic resources and programmes offered by the university. Dr. Tundup also briefed participants on internship opportunities, certificate courses, and specialised lectures delivered by experts from various fields.
The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to seek clarification on admissions, scholarships, academic pathways, and career prospects.
The programme was highly informative and received an enthusiastic response from both students and faculty members.
Dr. Mohd Hussain, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, GDC Zanskar expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests for their insightful presentations and acknowledged the efforts of all those involved in organising the programme.
