Sachin Kumar reviews disaster preparedness measures in Leh

Reviewing the disaster preparedness measures in the district, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Deputy Commissioner, Leh asked coordination among various government agencies and defence wings to deal with any disaster.
 
A meeting was held with Army, Police, Air force, Himank, ITBP and district officers on August 19.
 
Other disaster management issues like maintenance of communication system, the readiness of men and machines, power backup, transportation system, awareness mechanism, relief measures, availability of equipment and other important steps to tackle any disastrous situations were also discussed. 
 
To keep the main hospital and other medical resource centres fully prepared for any eventuality, emphasis was laid on devising a Plan-B and makeshift provisions. 
 
Sachin Kumar further asked the district officers to remain alert, vigilant and responsive by keeping their cell phones constantly on working mode in any situation.
 
Moses Kunzang, Additional District Development Commissioner, Leh said that district administration has devised a District Disaster Management Plan on the basis and experience of 2010 flash flood. Effective strategies for both preventive measures as well as rescue and relief operations are placed which will be disseminated among the general public through disaster management awareness.
 
He further asked for suggestions and inputs from the experts to improvise the plan and make it a practical one.
 
Col. Khanna, Adm. Commandant Station Headquarter Army briefed about the preparedness of Army in extending rescue and relief assistance to the civilian population in case of any untoward incident of a natural or man-made disaster.
 
Other preventive steps like dissemination of awareness and capacity building at all levels, community coordination, holding of mock drills, restoration of Pawan Hans helicopter service, the early creation of a helipad at SNM hospital and use of latest communication technology were also emphasised upon.
