MP Haneefa Jan reviews public grievances during visit to multiple villages in Kargil
Member of Parliament Haneefa Jan undertook an extensive tour of several villages including Stiyangkung, Karchykhar, Lalung, Thasgam, Hambri, Thang, Brakoo, and Thuvina to assess local needs, interact with residents, and review developmental challenges faced by the people.
During the visit, the MP patiently listened to villagers’ grievances and assured them of his continued support and intervention at both the Council and Central levels.
At Stiyangkung, residents sought the establishment of a cattle shed, water pump system, and medical centre, emphasizing their urgent need. They also requested the preservation of an old shrine, creation of an animal care centre,construction of a protection bandh for agricultural lands, and horticulture funds for apricot cultivation. The youth demanded the development of a playground. The MP assured them that all concerns would be addressed at the appropriate levels and highlighted horticulture and tourism as key sectors for Ladakh’s sustainable economic growth.
At Karchykhar, villagers requested the renovation of Syed Mir Hashim Astana, preservation of an ancient Buddha statue, and conservation of the old mosque’s carvings. They also demanded the upgradation of the local middle school (established in 1954) to a high school and additional funds for winter coaching of underprivileged students. The MP emphasized the importance of safeguarding Ladakh’s heritage and directed the Tourism Department to take steps for conservation. He assured that the school upgradation proposal would be pursued further.
At Lalung, residents raised issues regarding the construction of a link road from Goma Kyokchay to Lalung, establishment of a medical aid centre, flash flood protection wall, and unresolved matters under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). They also sought financial assistance for Imam Bargahs. The MP assured that these issues would be raised at both the Council and Central levels and directed concerned officials to ensure timely release of land compensation as per norms.
At Thasgam, the key demands included link roads, upgradation of the school and medical centre, and a playground for youth. Villagers also requested the renovation of the village canal and complained about the poor quality of manure supplied, urging the administration to provide white urea to improve crop yield. The MP assured them that their agricultural concerns would be taken up with the concerned departments to ensure timely supply of quality fertilizer.
At Hambri, residents demanded reconstruction and reopening of their school, installation of hand pumps due to JJM failures, road connectivity improvements, and a library for youth. In nearby Thang, inadequate water supply under JJM was also highlighted. The MP instructed officials to resolve water and infrastructure issues at the earliest.
At Brakoo, villagers appealed for the upgradation of the middle school, establishment of smart classroom facilities, repair of the water supply system, and construction of a protection wall around the school. They also sought restoration of the irrigation canal. The MP directed officers to initiate early action, assuring that some issues would be resolved at the Council level, while others would be taken up with the Central Government.
At Thuvina, villagers demanded upgradation of the middle school to a high school and construction of a road to the Lungma Glacier to promote tourism. They also requested support for the renovation and fencing of the Eidgah. The MP appreciated their forward-looking vision and emphasized that tourism development, particularly in the Barsoo region, could significantly enhance the local economy. He assured that all concerns would be addressed promptly through coordination with the Council and relevant departments.
In his concluding remarks, MP Haneefa Jan expressed satisfaction over the interactions and reaffirmed his commitment to the holistic development of the region, ensuring that the people’s aspirations are addressed through sustainable growth in tourism, horticulture, and infrastructure.
