KVK Nyoma celebrates World Soil Day 2025 at Tukla village
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, led by Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, successfully celebrated World Soil Day on December 5 at Tukla Village. The event saw active participation from over 26 farmers along with six officials from India’s highest-altitude KVK.
Dr. Phuntsog Tundup opened the programme with warm greetings, highlighting the global significance of World Soil Day. He stressed the importance of soil health, sustainable agricultural practices, and proper soil maintenance to ensure long-term productivity. He also interacted directly with farmers, addressing their questions related to soil issues.
This was followed by a technical session by Dr. Stanzin Diskit (Plant Pathologist), who delivered an insightful presentation on common diseases affecting crops and vegetables in the region. She emphasized the role of natural farming practices in reducing disease occurrence and maintaining ecological balance.
Dr. Tsering Lanzes (Pomologist) discussed the growing potential of horticultural crops amid shifting fruit belts and climate change. She elaborated on the key factors essential for successful cultivation under local agro-climatic conditions, guiding farmers on improving both yield and crop quality.
Further, Dr. Jamyang Lahmo (Extension Educationist) briefed participants on the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY). She outlined its major provisions and explained how farmers can benefit from the scheme to enhance their livelihoods.
The technical sessions concluded with hands-on training by Dr. Tashi Dolkar, SMS KVK Nyoma, who demonstrated the preparation of tomato purée—an initiative aimed at promoting value addition and income diversification among farmers.
Dr. Jamyang Lahmo, who expressed gratitude to all officials and farmers for their active participation and support.
