Hill Council discusses New and Renewable Energy projects in Leh

Meeting of the power sector on upcoming plans and projects of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy GoI in Ladakh held on September 5 at Council Secretariat.

Gyal P Wangyal, CEC, LAHDC, Leh chaired the meeting with NHPC Engineers headed by Abhay Kumar Singh, Executive Director (ED) NHPC.

Abhay Kumar Singh informed that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy GoI has already allotted different states to CPSUs for development of Ultra Mega Solar Power Project. Also, the development of solar project in both the newly created UTs of J&K and Ladakh has been allotted.

He said that Ministry of New and Renewable Energy GoI lead by Anand Kumar,Minister is keen to speed-up solar power projects in UT Ladakh on priority.

50 MW Solar Power Project at Phey Thang which is already allotted to Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) was discussed.

Abhay Kumar Singh requested Hill Council , Leh to provide land for development of solar power projects in Leh district.

He said that NHPC is ready to develop mini, medium and Ultra Mega Solar Power Project in Ladakh and urged Hill Council Leh to complete land allotting procedures and proposals of Council at the earliest so that NHPC could take a few solar projects in hand at the earliest time possible. 

He further added that a number of CSR schemes will automatically go along with solar projects when implemented.  

Gyal P Wangyal assured all possible support from Council in development of solar power projects in Leh and hoped that UT Ladakh will touch new heights in generation of solar energy in near future. 

Meanwhile, Gyal P Wangyal also highlighted various power-related issues and problems of Leh especially during winter months, and pending projects under PMDP and RGGVY being implemented by NHPC in Leh since many years.

Regarding pending projects of PMDP and RGGVY by NHPC in Leh, Abhay Kumar directed General Manager NHPC P. P. Singh Walkh to provide all the correspondence papers mentioning reasons for delays in completion of these projects. He assured earliest resolution of all the problems related to power in Ladakh.

Executive Councillors; Chering Dorjey, Former MLC; Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, MP Ladakh; Tsewang Paljor Executive Engineer PDD; Tundup Spalzang, Executive Engineer STD and other concerned engineers were present.
